J. Virginia Thompson

            Julia Virginia Thompson, daughter of Carl and Augusta Wieczoek Plamp, was born October 11, 1924 at Stickney, South Dakota.

            On June 1, 1944, she was united in marriage with Joseph E. Thompson at Clermont, Iowa. The couple farmed for many years in the Elgin and Clermont areas. Virginia had worked picking chickens at Ossian and worked for several years at Bostrom’s Super Value in West Union. At one time she also cooked in many restaurants in Minnesota and South Dakota and owned and operated her own café in Baltic, South Dakota.

            A resident of Hawkeye for many years, Virginia’s death occurred Friday, October 28, 2011, at the Strawberry Point Lutheran Home. She was eighty-seven years old and a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawkeye.

            She is survived by one daughter, Judy Pritchard of Hawkeye; three granddaughters, Bernadine Guyer of Ossian, Geraldine Olinger of Strawberry Point, and Joline Pritchard of Manchester; several great grandchildren; five step grandchildren, Darryl Pritchard of Independence, Evert Pritchard of Evansdale, Carmen Johnson of Decorah, Carmell Gangstead of Cresco, and Roxanne Pritchard of Ft. Dodge; and one sister, Fern Jenks of Tripp, South Dakota.

            Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph, who died in 1978; one son, Larry, who died in infancy; her parents; two brothers, Harold and Milford Plamp; and one sister, Hildegard Bindert.

            Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, November 4, 2011, at Becker-Milnes Funeral Home in Hawkeye with Associate in Ministry Susan Friedrich officiating. Friends may call for one hour preceding services at the funeral home on Friday. Inurnment will follow at Hawkeye Cemetery.
